Daily Info, Oxford

Notes for messengers

1. COLLECTION. 5.00pm from First Floor, 121 Cowley Road, on Monday, Wednesday & Friday in Oxford University term and once a week (Thursdays) in the vacation.

2. DELIVERY. Straight away, please, taking between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the route. It may take 2-3 hours for a few days until you know your route. We pay by the hour. A route list (and, if necessary, a map) is provided. Your route list will be updated from time to time. There will be between 40 and 70 copies of the sheet to deliver on each route, to between 25 and 50 different places (we call each place a "drop").

2:1 At each drop, you will need to pin the sheet to a noticeboard, hand it to a staff member, leave it on a desk or post it through a letterbox - all reasonably tidily. Please use common sense - don't leave sheets in places where they won't be spotted by the people who put them on display, or where they'll get rained on or walked on. There are more specific delivery instructions on your route list.

2:2 PLEASE TELL US (tel. 241133 or in person), as soon as you can, if you have more than two sheets over or under your requirements, or

2:3 If some distribution points do not appear to be using the sheets, or are closed, or

2:4 If you spot newly opened places on your route which look like potential display points for the sheet.

3. PAY. Weekly, in cash. In term time on Friday for the Monday, Wednesday and Friday of that week, in the vac., on Thursdays for that Thursday. £7/hour plus £1 per additional poster. There will be one or two copies of our sheet (usually one) per drop. Posters are occasional and will number 1-3 per drop (usually just the one).

4. CONTACT. You will need your own phone number (ideally mobile) and an email address as well as your own bike. We won't usually need to get in touch with you urgently, but there might be rare occasions when we do.

5. ABSENCES. We do not normally expect any. We need you to be reliable and - ideally - around pretty much constantly, or when not (due to holidays, exams, etc.), to give us lots of advance notice.

6. FINALLY, thanks for doing quite a tiring but extremely valuable job. If and when you run into problems, do call us or come to see us without delay.
